The NEPS Scientific Use Files in the On-site version include very sensitive microdata with the lowest level of anonymization. The analysis of these data is only possible at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) in Bamberg. The work stations in our data security rooms prevent any copying or removing of sensitive information from the premises of the NEPS. All input our output devices are locked down and the computers are not connected to the Internet or any local area network. The staff of the Research Data Center (RDC) is allowed to monitor all work with on-site data versions at all times. Any access to printers is controlled, and each output is reviewed before making it available. In this controlled environment, all data are highly secure and researchers can utilize the full range of information, including sensitive items.
Access to the NEPS On-site data requires a guest stay in Bamberg as well as a valid Data Use Agreement and an additional On-site Supplemental Agreement. Please contact the RDC in advance to plan your visit at LIfBi.
